Feedback task

I have shown our video to many friends and staff members of my school, I have collected general feedback from all of them and here are the positives and negatives that were mentioned the most:
Positives:
- The music, most people were very happy with the music and almost everyone said that all sounds in the video were very accurate with the kind of mood that the visuals give off, so there is a good match.
- The camera angles, most of the viewers that I have interviewed have said that they thought that most of our camera angles had a good mixture of creativeness and also a good reflection of typical camera angles used in most movies.
- The editing, everyone thought that the editing was well timed and did not show major mistakes.
Negatives:
- Some viewers stated that the acting could be improved, especially the second half (after the killing).
- The main concern that most viewers had is the font used for the opening titles, the majority of people found them inappropriate, personally, I fully agree, I think that the ones we have used are not suited for the kind of genre and mood that we wanted to set with the storyline and the visuals.

Evaluation 2 - How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Evaluation 5 - How did you attract/ Adress your audience?

In our video, we used reasonably long shots at the start with the main character walking around some buildings, we did this because we wanted to build the suspense and we wanted to attract the audience and really make them want to know what will happen to the main character. After the killing, the killer disappears into the darkness to emphasize the Film Noir effect. During the detective scenes we really wanted the audience to feel like they were looking for clues just like the two detective were.

Evaluation 7 - Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

From the preliminary task, creating a shot library I have gained a better understanding of the use of each technique and how to incorporate them in a product to represent certain aspects of the narrative and highlight characteristics of our chosen genre. In my progression exploring many aspects of what would be the full product I have practiced analyzing these techniques and have learned how to apply them. I also believe that we have found more intriguing shots than the ones that we originally planned to use. The location that we used is also different from the one we planned previously as there wasn't enough light in the original spot. We also decided to add different sorts of sounds during various scenes, as we all agreed that we wanted a slightly different mood for some scenes.

Evaluation 6 - What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Personally, I have learnt two main things, first, during the filming of our video, I learnt how to change the focus of the camera with a moving "target", then I understood how Imovie works, it took some time and some advice from old Media A-level students to get a grip of how things work, for example trimming clips and audios or adding audios to a clip, adding titles to some scenes and having the right timing of appearance and disappearance from the screen, the fading of the sound in some sections of our film are incredibly important in my opinion as they really introduce "you" to the next scene and to the next sound. Another thing I used for the construction of our project is youtube, I took inspiration from other Films Noir movies to use in our video, things like camera angles or facial expressions from other actors in the past.

Evaluation 4 - Who would be the audience for your media product?

I believe that our audience would mainly be 40 to 80 years olds, as they have grown up in the time when film noir was a big genre in the cinema world. However, younger generations could also be interested as they might be intrigued by the "old school" criminality and generally learn more about the 1940s.
Due to technical problems I have not been able to upload the image of the perfect member of our film.
Here is the link to it.

Evaluation 3 - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

One of the main Film Noir distributors is Universal Studios, it is one of the most successful film studios in the world. In the past it has had the bravery of believing in films that at the time would have been seen as non successful like Black Cat (1934), this gives Universal Studios the quality of thinking outside the box and maybe not be too stereotypical and to take risks. Our film brings to life a genre that has been forgotten for many years, in the last 20-30 years the main cinema views have been following other emerging genres like Action, Thriller and Horror. This could be a reason why Media Institutions like Universal Studios might like us and might have the intension of distributing our film.
